A Bride to Be The Story
A Bride to Be The Story The idea of A Bride to Be came to life following my very own experience with wedding dress shopping.
Like most upcoming brides, I dove headfirst into the unknown with high hopes. I thought that wedding dress shopping would be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences of not only my wedding, but of my life as a whole.
Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Sadly, this was not the case at all. In what can only be described as a “world-class meltdown”, none of the dresses I tried on worked for me. It would be kind for me to say that I looked like a stumpy, white marshmallow. Despite the sheer number of dresses I tried on, I felt as though they had all been designed and tailored for minority supermodels.
Talk about a jab to the self-esteem!
To top it off, my supermodel suspicions were confirmed when I flipped over the sneaky little price tag to see the numbers ranging from $2,500-$6,000 as a MINIMUM.
Now, I can’t speak for everyone, but considering these dresses were sold in Australia by renowned bridal brands, yet mass-produced overseas…? Nah, I think that money could be better spent on a mortgage, rental payments, a car or a holiday.
So, as a non-supermodel bride-to-be lacking the killer body and limitless funds to match, I was starting to lose hope. At this point, I figured I’d probably be lucky to walk down the aisle in a soccer jersey and flannelette PJ pants. I had 3 major problems, and they went a little something like this;
The dresses were out of my price range, by thousands and thousands.
The dresses certainly weren’t designed for midget non-supermodels with giant boobs.
The dresses were all blinding white and washed me out like you’ve never seen before.
Admittedly, I was hysterical for a little while. Forget cool, calm and collected, I was stressed, spiteful and satanic! When I eventually calmed down and rationalised with the world, I took a deep breath and thought about how I could solve my own dilemma.
Springing to mind was my subconscious yelling “Girl, you’ve got connections!” Rightly so, which is why I set out to resolve my 3 major problems as soon as I could. I thought to myself “Why don’t I just design my own dress, have it tailored specifically for me, and pay an affordable price?”
With this motivation in mind, I walked down the aisle on the 17th of September 2016 in my dream wedding dress that was handmade, embroidered and personalised just for me – The non-supermodel bride! Please, contain your applause.
My wedding dress was inspired by my Cinderella meets French Garden themed wedding and, upon arriving at the chapel, my husband burst into tears at how beautiful I looked!
Every bride’s dream, right? Following the ceremony, we moved to our reception at Cloudland where I was approached by over 40 revellers who remarked that they not only loved my dress, but that they had never seen anything else like it.
Remember that self-esteem jab I was talking about earlier? Well, this was a self-esteem jump of the biggest and best kind. One lady even offered to buy my dress from me, right then and there. Whilst the offer was tempting, walking through the party precinct of the Valley in my undergarments was simply not an option, or at least not a very appropriate one.
While lazing around on my honeymoon, my Eureka! moment hit me. I thought to myself “Surely I wasn’t alone here… Surely there have been other despairing brides-to-be out there who have faced the same stress of finding a dress that didn’t make them want to throw a chair at a mirror.” I thought, “Why don’t I create my own tailored wedding business, one where brides can personally design their dresses to suit their exact style and taste, and one where we can celebrate real, non-supermodel bodies?”
For this reason, I offer my brides-to-be several options. Whether they want to wear something they’ve seen in-store, something they’ve seen online on Pinterest, Instagram etc., or even something they’ve seen in a ridiculously overpriced European bridal magazine, I will make it work.
I welcome my clients to send me photos of what they are looking for, and let me know what styling/colour/shaping modifications they would like to be made.
The sky is your limit! I also offer Bridesmaid and Formal dresses and packages.
I believe every woman should feel beautiful within her skin, and I believe that this can be achieved through beautiful clothing that is not only flattering, but also empowering.
So, you there, the Bride to Be… Do you dare to be different?
I welcome you to get in touch with me today to bring your dreams to life and turn your wedding fairy tale into a reality.
